CASTLE CREEK TRIATHLON

Water temperature is 77. If you’d like to wear a wetsuit please feel free to do so. Lake Pleasant water level is lower than usual and the boat ramp and ground in transition are on the rugged side. Please feel free to leave footwear at swim exit.
If you, or anyone in your household, shows any signs of illness or symptoms of COVID-19, you should not attend this event. According to the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, COVID-19 symptoms include:

• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Fatigue
• Muscle or body aches
• Headache
• New loss of taste or smell

• Congestion or runny nose
• Nausea or vomiting

It will probably be hot, and it will definitely be hilly!! Come out and test yourself against at the 2nd Annual Castle Creek Triathlon. The Castle Creek Triathlon offers a sprint and Olympic distance triathlon and aquabike as well as a sprint duathlon for individuals. For teams we offer an Olympic distance relay.

6:35 a.m. Women’s and relay’s wave – Olympic triathlon and aquabike (in water start)
6:40 a.m. Sprint duathlon begins
6:45 a.m. Men’s Wave – Sprint triathlon and aquabike (in water start)
6:50 a.m. Women’s Wave – Sprint triathlon and aquabike (in water start)
7:35 a.m. Must have started the bike
9:00 a.m. Sprint awards
9:30 a.m. Must have started run
10:00 a.m. Olympic awards
10:15 a.m. Must be on second loop of the run
At 6:30 a.m. we would like to have all athletes onsite. At that time the road from the entry station to the boat ramp will be closed to inbound traffic. Vehicles may leave at any time but please be aware cyclists and runners will be on the road.
PARKING
Remember there is a $7 entry fee per vehicle to enter Lake Pleasant Regional Park. Please have exact change.
PACKET PICK UP
Photo ID required to pick up race packet
If you are a USA Triathlon member please have proof of membership
You have to pick up your race packet in person (no one can pick up yours and you cannot pick up for anyone else)
Each member of a relay team must check in but the whole does not have to pick up their packets together
COVID PRECAUTIONS
PHYSICAL DISTANCING
We will be creating a large transition area with less bikes per rack. Please be mindful of of others during the event especially at registration, race start, finish line and post race.
REDUCE FACE TO FACE INTERACTIONS
Plastic barrier between athletes and volunteers/staff at packet pick up in Anthem
Self serve water station on the run. Volunteers will place single serve water bottles on a table, please help yourself.
At the finish line please take off your own timing chip and get a finisher medal off the table
HAND SANITIZER
Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the race site
COURSE CUT OFFS
There are three cut offs for The Castle Creek Triathlon.
1) You must have started the bike by 7:35 a.m.
2) You must start the run by 9:30 a.m.
3) You must be on the second loop of the run by 10:15 a.m.
Sprint = 1 loop. Olympic = 2 loops
Keep buoys on your left
Olympic = grey swim cap
Sprint = pink swim cap
TRANSITION
Swim in/Bike in at east end (end closest to the lake)
Bike out/Run out at west end
The ground in transition is on the rough side. Feel free to leave flip flops at swim exit
No water stations. Athletes to self-support on bike
Traffic is restricted but road not completely closed to traffic. STAY RIGHT! Share the road. Exercise caution
Please ride very cautiously from the entry station down the hill to the boat ramp. This section of road will also have runners
Out and back toward Carefree Highway
Follow instructions of staff and/or MCSO
Sprint = 2 loop. Olympic = 4 loops
Turn around
1. Castle Hot Springs Rd 3.1 miles from north boat ramp
2. Boat ramp/transition area
Sprint = 1 loop. Olympic = 2 loops
Follow instructions of staff and/or MCSO

AQUABIKE
Final time for aquabike participants will be calculated at BIKE IN. Once you have finished please make your way to the finish line in your own time to collect your medal, grab a drink and return your timing chip.
TIMING
This event will be chip timed by 4 Peaks Racing using triathlon chips. Lost or unreturned chips will be charged to the athlete. Results will be available live at the results kiosk on a big screen TV. Chips should be worn on your left ankle and must be returned at the finish.
