Cactus Man

Wanted for displays of speed and athleticism, Cactus Man is coming back to Tempe! Bringing you the familiarity of Tempe Town Lake with both Sprint and International distances for individual and relay competitors. See you at the seventh annual Cactus Man!

TRIATHLON
Sprint – 750m swim, 10 mile bike, 3.1 mile run
International – 1500m swim, 20 mile bike, 6.2 mile run

DUATHLON
Sprint – 3.1 mile run, 10 mile bike, 3.1 mile run
International – 3.1 mile run, 20 mile bike, 6.2 mile run

AQUABIKE
Sprint – 750m swim, 10 mile bike
International – 1500m swim, 20 mile bike

USA TRIATHLON
Cactus Man is sanctioned by USA Triathlon (USAT), the governing body of multisport in North America. One of the many roles played by USAT is that of insurance provider for this race. As such USAT requires that every participant be either (1) an annual member, or (2) purchase a one day membership. Memberships can be purchased during online registration.

Paid parking will be available adjacent to Tempe Center for the Arts at the parking garage located at:

1 hour or less – $3.00

The parking lot does not accept cash, it’s an automated facility and credit/debit cards are accepted at the exit lanes.

On race morning access to the Idea Parking Garage before 500am will be unrestricted. From 500am to 530am bike course road closures will begin to take effect. Access to the Idea Parking Garage will be from University, northbound on Hardy. After 600am there is no parking in the Idea Parking Garage. Please park downtown Tempe after 600am

**You may check your bike race morning. There will be security at transition beginning 12:00 p.m. Saturday until the last bike is checked out after the race.

SUNDAY, APRIL 27
4:45 a.m. Transition opens and body marking
5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Packet pickup
6:20 a.m. Transition closes for Sprint distance
6:25 a.m. 2Gether We Live athletes begin
6:30 a.m. Sprint triathlon and aquabike athletes begin (rolling start)
6:35 a.m. All duathletes start at swim start
6:45 a.m. Transition closes for International distance
7:00 a.m. International triathlon and aquabike athletes begin (rolling start)
8:15 a.m. Swim course cut off
8:45 a.m. Sprint Distance awards
9:15 a.m. No new bike course laps
9:30 a.m. Transition opens
10:00 a.m. International Distance awards
10:00 a.m. No new run course laps

RACE TIMING
This event is timed using equipment by RFID Timing Systems. All participants need to wear a timing chip around their ankle with the Velcro strap provided. The chips are reusable and need to be returned after the event. These chips are the athlete’s responsibility and missing chips will be charged to the athletes.

Top 3 male and female Pro in the International distance
Overall awards will be given to the top three male and female age group finishers in the Sprint and International distance.
Age group awards will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in the Sprint and International distance per the following age groups:

20-24

30-34
35-39
40-44
45-49
50-54
55-59
60-64
65-69
70-74
75-79
80+
Awards will also be given to the top three finishers in the following categories:
Paratriathlete
Aqua Bike
Duathlon
Clydesdales (Men 220 +lbs)
Athenas (Women 165+ lbs)
Relay coed
Relay male
Relay female

AQUA BIKE
Final time will be calculated at BIKE IN. Once you have finished please make your way to the finish line at your leisure to collect your medal, grab a drink and return your timing chip.

SWIM
Start and finish at Arts Park
Sprint distance follows the yellow line and international follows the green line
Rolling start so there will be athletes starting the swim while others are finishing the swim

If, for any reason, Tempe Town Lake is not useable Cactus Man will proceed as a duathlon

CLICK HERE for water temp. We will be following USA Triathlon’s guidelines for wetsuit use. Wetsuits use is allowed when water temperature is 78 or under. Age group athletes can use at wetsuit when water temperature is 78-84 but would not be eligible to awards
